Tasting book #1 - January 2025

Every new year has its share of good resolutions. This year I intend to innovate on the site, propose more regular content (it must be admitted that during 2024 it was difficult to reconcile everything), with new headings and new articles.

This is the first publication of my tasting book. In this monthly publication, all tastings carried out over the month will be grouped together, whether they were done in a professional setting (trade shows, within properties, etc.) or personal.

As always, comments and their notes are my own responsibility.

For this first tasting book, I must confess that a violent flu has ruined the beginning of the year. A loss of taste and smell forced me to cancel a tasting among wine enthusiasts, but especially a trip on the Bordeaux which, in view of the program, was particularly grandiose.

So I decided to put my foot in the stirrup with a late-harvest German Riesling. For the rest, very much focused on champagne, it was after seeing a video criticizing champagnes in favor of crémants that I decided to challenge myself. Not that the cremants are not well made, far from it, there are some remarkable ones, but, in my eyes, no effervescent can put itself at the table of champagnes. So I wondered if it was possible to find champagne worth about thirty euros? The answer is, without hesitation, yes! You should know that the most expensive cost 36 €, all is said.

  • Anselmann Riesling Spätlese 2022 – 88/100

The nose is clear, fresh and expressive, with nice notes of citrus, apricots, as well as fine notes of white fruit. The attack on the palate is both lively and full of sweetness. The sweetness is well balanced by a fine acidity. Taut finish and a correct length. A wine that can be tasted today.

  • Champagne Lallier R020 Brut – 90/100

Charming, dynamic, fresh nose with a beautiful intensity, you can easily perceive its notes of citrus, peach, apricot and elegant notes of hawthorn and acacia. The palate is fine, full of vivacity and a beautiful aromatic expression. The balance is just wonderful. The taut and elegant finish. A beautiful champagne that allows you to approach the Lallier house with brio.

  • Champagne Palmer & Co Brut Réserve – 94/100

Seductive, fine and rich, the nose reveals its wonderful bouquet of pear, citrus with a hint of hazelnuts, toast and fine buttered notes. The palate is voluminous, elegant with a beautiful aromatic richness. The perceived acidity brings a lot of freshness, the balance is ideal. The finish is full of refinement and persistence. A very nice champagne that I highly recommend. For holidays or just for a special occasion, it is one of the superb quality-price ratios in the market.

  • Champagne Drappier Pinot Noir Brut Nature – 93/100

Nose where refinement, freshness and intensity are mixed, we find very nice notes of red fruits, citrus with subtle floral notes. The attack in the mouth is lively, the bubbles are of a remarkable finesse. It gains in volume as and when. The finish is full of minerality and a very pleasant length. A very beautiful champagne that allows to approach the Drappier house in the best way. It will be perfect for an aperitif, to awaken the taste buds.
